Think of it asLike a water pipe with a built-in filter: connect both ends and the water flows to the right place.

When to use it

✓ Use it when

You need to move events from one source to one target with simple filtering/transformation.

✗ Avoid it when

One event needs to fan out to many targets based on rules → EventBridge event bus.

Common uses

  • Read DynamoDB Streams into Step Functions
  • Filter SQS messages before calling an API
  • Enrich data with Lambda along the way

What does it cost?

  • Pricing model: Charged by the number of requests (events) passing through the pipe after filtering.
