Think of it asLike a credit card limit: know in advance how much is left and request an increase when needed.

When to use it

✓ Use it when

Before scaling up significantly or when hitting errors from reaching a limit (e.g., On-Demand vCPU count).

✗ Avoid it when

Need to control permissions or budgets → IAM / AWS Budgets.

Common uses

  • Request an EC2 vCPU limit increase before a big event
  • Alarm when quota usage exceeds 80%
  • Set quota templates for new accounts in Organizations

  • Pricing model: No separate charge; CloudWatch alarms created alongside are billed normally.
